Real Time Image Rotation Using Dynamic Reconfiguration

چکیده
F ield programmable gate array (FPGA) components are widely used nowdays to implement various algorithms, such as digital filtering, in real time. The emergence of dynamically reconfigurable FPGAs made it possible to reduce the number of necessary resources to carry out an image-processing task (tasks chain). In this article, an image-processing application, image rotation, that exploits the FPGAs dynamic reconfiguration method is presented. This paper shows that the choice of an implementation, static or dynamic reconfiguration, depends on the nature of the application. A comparison is carried out between the dynamic and the static reconfiguration using two criteria: cost and performance. It appears that, according to the nature of the application, the dynamic reconfiguration can be less or more advantageous. In order to be able to test the validity of our approach in terms of algorithm and architecture adequacy, we realized an AT40K40-based board ‘‘ARDOISE’’.

This paper presents the design procedure and implementation results of a proposed hardware which performs different satellite Image compressions using FPGA Xilinx board. First, the method is described and then VHDL code is written and synthesized by ISE software of Xilinx Company. The results show that it is easy and useful to design, develop and implement the hardware image compressor using ne...
متن کاملA PRACTICAL APPROACH TO REAL-TIME DYNAMIC BACKGROUND GENERATION BASED ON A TEMPORAL MEDIAN FILTER
In many computer vision applications, segmenting and extraction of moving objects in video sequences is an essential task. Background subtraction, by which each input image is subtracted from the reference image, has often been used for this purpose. In this paper, we offer a novel background-subtraction technique for real-time dynamic background generation using color images that are taken fro...
متن کاملDynamic Image Filter Selection using Partially Reconfigurable FPGAs for Imaging Operations
Real time image processing requires the selection of appropriate image filters. Static implementations of filter circuitry can be optimized if the image type is known at the time of reception. However, if the type of the incoming image is unknown, then improper selection of the filters could severely impact the quality of the received image. In this paper, an effective technique to select an im...
متن کاملFunction Replacement of Hard Real-time Systems Using Partial Reconfiguration
This paper describes a method of function replacement in hard real-time systems implemented with FPGAs using dynamic partial reconfiguration. Prefetching of functions is used to avoid violations of real time conditions in cases where reconfiguration time is large compared to sampling time. A finite state machine determined from the specification of the real-time system is used to control reconf...
